Our house is roughly 100 years old. The back section (visible in the John Deere photo below) was added on in the 1970s. Although mechanically the house is in good shape, the decor is in BAD need of updating. The previous owners own a country store and had an affinity for birch bark and log wall paper and lots of borders - and, to their credit, it was an admirable job of country decorating with very accomplished faux painting - but not our style.
(right) This is the channel view from my office window (in the peak of the west gable in the photo above).

(below) The living room was the first room that we tackled which required removing the moose, bear and pinecone wallpaper border and repainting the flat rust walls in "rhubarb" red. It provided a nice background color to set Dale Johnson's ice house paintings against. We had the oak floors refinished and they look incredible!

Welcome!

We welcome our friends to visit - we have a guest room (or two) and would enjoy sharing our wonderful county with you.

If you are coming to Door County, here are the directions to our house:

When you're entering Sturgeon Bay, you will pass a Walgreen's. Immediately after the Walgreen's take the exit on your right to the business district. Follow this road until you get to Maple Street (stop light) - turn right on Maple. This will lead you to our new bridge and dump out on Oregon Street.

Take the first right after the bridge (First Ave.) - this will wrap you around through the Marina area and turn to the left then stop at Third Avenue (by the Green Townhouses). Take a right here and you will automatically be on Memorial Drive (3rd turns into Memorial Drive.).

We are at 732 Memorial Drive - a white house on your left just past the curve as you pass the marina.

Just to prove that we're officially Cheeseheads, a John Deere riding mower for the huge vacant lot to our east (in breathtaking Packer colors). It even has a beer holder and came with a ya-der-hey dork cap. This photo also shows a view of the back side of our house.
(left) The view from our living room window looking toward the ship channel/bay across the street.

(below left) The gas pump wouldn't fit in my new office, so we put it outside of the garage. In the background you can see our garden and side lot (upon which we may build someday), and our back door neighbor's house.

(below right) This is the house just east of our lot. We love it - it reminds us of England (conservatory and all). I don't think we are actually coveting our neighbor's house - merely appreciating it.

The log wallpaper (see before photos on the construction page) in Tim's office was removed (sort of - we resorted to "tissue and paint" texturing over the wallpapered walls) and fully clutterized in Tim fashion. You can see the logs in the before photos below. And, what's behind "Door #3" you ask? Massive attic storage space - perfect for all of Tim's extra office junk.

The guest bedroom was given two new paint colors - covering over the purple wall and the scrambled egg sponged walls. On the right is the first itteration of the guest room. Now it has a big cozy queen bed and its own 3/4 guest bath (shown below).

Our favorite place to sit and sip and chat: The front porch - such a pleasant place.

The basement has an authentic British Isles pub that we've dubbed, "the Dead Dove Pub".
Below you can see one of the horse carriages whose route takes them clomping right past our front porch (our favorite place to sit and sip and chat).

We've posted a page of Door County sunsets, too. Check out the breathtakingly beautiful and ever-changing art that we are treated to most evenings.
