The 671 foot-long Wilfred Sykes was built in 1949 for Inland Steel. It has a capacity of 21,500 tons, 7,000 horsepower and a 250 foot self-unloading boom.

The propeller is 18.5 feet in diameter.

Three tugs scurry about in the harbor in sub-zero temperatures breaking the ice and pushing the Sykes about turning it into position at its winter mooring where it will await its turn at Bay Ship for repairs and maintenance.
