This page has photos of the massive gantry crane at Bay Ship in Sturgeon Bay - the largest and busiest shipyard on the Great Lakes. Bay Ship services the 57 Great Lakes shipping vessels, many of which were built right in Sturgeon Bay.  Each winter, typically 12-16 of these 1000 footers, dock at Bay Ship for their scheduled repairs (see my traffic report page).  Crossing the downtown bridge January through March, it is imposible not to notice the mini-city that Bay Ship becomes with her winter fleet. Bay Ship also repairs tugs, ferries, barges and has even serviced a New York Staten Island Ferry.

In the summer of 2006 I got to go to the top of the gantry crane as a part of taping the Duct Tape Guys' television show pilot. This massive crane is capable of lifting 200 tons, so it easily handled the weight of both Duct Tape Guys, plus our film crew. Here are some shots from that visit.
